Rising Diabetes Crisis: 30% Prevalence Puts Pakistan at Global Forefront
A diabetes awareness walk was organized today by Ailpur Diabetes Foundation and Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine. The walk was led by Professor Dr. Amir Shaukat, Dr. Muhammad Irfan, Dr. Ahmed Shehzad, and Dr. Owais Fazal. Participants carried banners and placards with preventive tips against diabetes. The walk started from the office of the Vice Chancellor of Faisalabad Medical University and concluded at the main gate.

He explained that diabetes affects every part of the body from head to toe and is the leading cause of stroke, heart attacks, and kidney failure. Every 30 seconds, a leg is amputated due to complications of diabetes worldwide, and it is also becoming the leading cause of blindness.
Professor Dr. Amir Shaukat emphasized that diabetes prevention is crucial. He recommended avoiding fast food and high-fat diets to control diabetes. He also advised 45 minutes of daily walking, weight reduction, and quitting smoking as essential preventive measures.
Dr. Ahmed Shehzad announced that Ailpur Diabetic Association will soon launch awareness programs in schools and colleges to educate young people about diabetes prevention.
