YouTube Introduces AI Tools to Protect Users from Deepfake Videos

YouTube has announced plans to introduce new artificial intelligence (AI) tools aimed at enhancing content protection and user privacy. The upgraded Content ID system will utilize AI technology to detect copyright infringements in music, including AI-generated synthetic sounds that mimic original songs. The feature will alert users to potential copyright violations, with an initial version set to launch next year.

Additionally, YouTube is developing a tool to identify deepfake faces in videos, enabling users to detect unauthorized use of their likeness created by AI. This feature will provide celebrities and artists with greater control over their online presence, allowing them to request removal of such videos through the platform’s privacy request process. This move marks a tightening and refinement of YouTube’s existing policy, which previously labeled such content as AI or misleading.
