Faiz Hameed Case: Army Sets Example for Accountability, Says DG ISPR
In a press conference held on Thursday, DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif addressed various pressing issues, reiterating the Pakistan Army’s commitment to self-accountability and transparency.
Sharif emphasized the army’s belief in a comprehensive self-accountability system, citing the case of Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed as a prime example. The retired officer faces court-martial proceedings for violating the Army Act, demonstrating the army’s willingness to take action against those who compromise its integrity.
The spokesperson underscored the army’s apolitical stance, asserting that it neither supports nor opposes any political party. This statement comes amidst accusations of military interference in political affairs.
Sharif provided updates on the army’s ongoing operations against terrorists and their facilitators, revealing that over 130 daily operations have resulted in the killing of 90 terrorists in the last month. The focus remains on combating terrorism and ensuring national security.
The DG ISPR acknowledged the sense of deprivation in Balochistan, exploited by external elements. He vowed that the army would deal with terrorists and their facilitators with an iron fist, ensuring the region’s development and stability.
Sharif maintained that the army’s accountability process is transparent, relying on evidence rather than allegations. The Faiz Hameed case serves as a testament to this commitment, demonstrating the army’s willingness to act against those who compromise its values.
The spokesperson encouraged other institutions to emulate the army’s self-accountability, promoting a culture of transparency. Additionally, he highlighted the army’s reduced defense expenditure and significant contributions to the national treasury through duties and taxes.
