Zelensky Calls for Diplomatic Efforts to End War with Russia by Next Year
KYIV, Nov 16– Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has stressed the importance of doing everything possible to end the war with Russia by next year, through diplomatic efforts. Speaking in a Ukrainian radio interview, Zelenskiy said that while Ukraine must push for a peaceful resolution, Russian President Vladimir Putin has shown little interest in negotiating peace, and suggested Moscow may only be willing to talk while continuing its military operations.
“From our side, we must do everything so that this war ends next year, ends through diplomatic means,” Zelenskiy said.
Zelenskiy’s comments come at a critical moment, following former U.S. President Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. election and Russia’s continued military gains on the battlefield. Moscow’s ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva recently indicated that Russia could be open to negotiations, but only if led by Trump, and under terms that would reflect “realities on the ground.”(Reuters)
