Xi Jinping and Joe Biden Discuss Cooperation in Final Meeting Before Trump’s Inauguration
Lima, Peru – Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged to work with the incoming U.S. administration of Donald Trump during his final meeting with outgoing President Joe Biden on Saturday. The two leaders met for two hours on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Lima, Peru.
Xi said China’s goal for a stable and healthy U.S.-China relationship would not change after Trump takes office. He acknowledged the challenges in their relationship but expressed readiness to work with the new U.S. administration to maintain communication and manage differences.
Biden said their discussions have been “frank” and “candid,” even though the two leaders do not always agree. The meeting was the first direct conversation between Xi and Biden in seven months, covering topics like trade, cybercrime, Taiwan, the South China Sea, and Russia.
Both leaders agreed to continue working together to avoid misunderstandings and promote stability between their countries.
