Williamson’s Unbeaten Ton Guides New Zealand to Tri-Nation Series Final

Lahore, February 10, 2025 – Kane Williamson played a match-winning knock of 133* to lead New Zealand to a six-wicket victory over South Africa, securing their place in the final of the tri-nation series at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Chasing a challenging target of 305, New Zealand reached the target with eight balls to spare. Williamson’s composed innings of 133 not out off 113 balls, alongside a solid contribution from Devon Conway (97), proved to be the difference in the run chase.

The match started with New Zealand’s opening pair of Will Young and Conway putting together 50 runs before Young was dismissed for 19. Williamson and Conway then formed a strong 187-run partnership, but Conway fell agonizingly short of a century, dismissed for 97.

As the chase progressed, South Africa fought back with key breakthroughs, dismissing Daryl Mitchell for 10 and Tom Latham for a golden duck. However, Glenn Phillips (10*) joined Williamson at the crease, and the pair guided New Zealand home with ease.

Earlier, South Africa set a competitive total of 304/6, thanks to a brilliant 150 off 148 balls by Matthew Breetzke, who broke a decades-old record with his remarkable century. Wiaan Mulder also contributed with a valuable 64 off 60 deliveries. Despite their efforts, New Zealand’s chase was clinical as they comfortably crossed the line.

With two wins from two games, New Zealand has now confirmed their spot in the tri-nation series final, with an impressive all-round performance.

Match Summary:

  • South Africa: 304/6 (Breetzke 150, Mulder 64)
  • New Zealand: 305/4 (Williamson 133*, Conway 97)

New Zealand’s dominant performance will give them great confidence as they prepare for the final of the series.
