US Vetoes UN Security Council Resolution on Gaza Ceasefire
The United States has vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an unconditional ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution was put forward by 10 non-permanent members of the council, including Algeria, Guyana, and Slovenia.
This is the fourth time the US has used its veto power to block a Gaza ceasefire resolution. According to reports, 14 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, while one member opposed it.
Since the conflict began, the Security Council has presented ceasefire resolutions 11 times, with this latest one marking a continuation of the international calls for an end to hostilities.
Meanwhile, Israeli military operations continue in northern Gaza, where airstrikes in Jabalia have resulted in the deaths of 16 Palestinians. The Israeli forces have also laid siege to the Kamal Adwan Hospital, restricting access to medical supplies, food, and ambulances. Furthermore, Israel has denied 31 UN humanitarian missions access to northern Gaza.
