US FCC Votes to Review and Update Undersea Cable Rules Amid Security Concerns
WASHINGTON, Nov 21– The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted unanimously on Thursday to propose new rules and conduct a comprehensive review of the regulations surrounding undersea telecommunications cables. These cables carry more than 98% of global internet traffic.
The review is in response to growing national security concerns about the global network of subsea cables, which are vital for international communications. The FCC’s decision to update these rules highlights the increasing focus on securing critical infrastructure in the face of rising cyber threats and geopolitical tensions.
