UK Backs ICC’s Independence Amid Netanyahu Arrest Warrants
LONDON, Nov 21– The UK government reaffirmed its respect for the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) independence on Thursday, following the issuance of arrest warrants by the ICC for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former defense chief, and a Hamas leader.
A spokesperson for Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated, “We respect the independence of the International Criminal Court, which is the primary international institution for investigating and prosecuting the most serious crimes of international concern.” The spokesperson also emphasized, “There is no moral equivalence between Israel, a democracy, and Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah, which are terrorist organizations.”
The UK government reiterated its focus on pushing for an immediate ceasefire to end the violence in Gaza.
