U.S. State of Washington Puts National Guard on Standby Amid Potential Election-Related Violence
In anticipation of possible violence during the presidential election, the governor of Washington state has mobilized National Guard members to be on standby. According to international media, Governor Jay Inslee took this measure following intelligence and concerns about potential unrest linked to the upcoming election.
Analysts predict that Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris may defeat Republican candidate Donald Trump with relative ease in Washington. Earlier this week, ballot drop boxes in the state were set on fire, raising security concerns. Governor Inslee emphasized the need to prepare for any incidents related to the 2024 general election, citing both general and specific information suggesting potential violence or illegal activity.
The University of Florida’s Election Lab reports that over two million Washington residents have already voted early. Inslee highlighted an incident in Vancouver, where an incendiary device damaged hundreds of ballots in a drop box. The presidential election is set for November 5, with a close race expected between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
