Two Activists Charged for Spraying Paint at Stonehenge

LONDON — Two environmental activists have been charged after spraying orange paint on the Stonehenge monuments in June, police said Thursday.

Rajan Naidu, 73, and Niamh Lynch, 22, have been charged with damaging a protected monument and causing a public nuisance, Wiltshire Police confirmed. The two activists will appear in court on December 13.

The protest, claimed by the group Just Stop Oil, showed Naidu spraying orange powder from a fire extinguisher onto one of the Stonehenge stones. Lynch also sprayed three other stones before she was stopped. The group said the paint was made from cornstarch and would wash away in the rain.

The protest was part of the group’s efforts to raise awareness about environmental issues.
