Turkey Fines Amazon’s Twitch Over Data Breach
November 16, 2024: Turkey’s Personal Data Protection Board (KVKK) has fined Amazon’s gaming platform Twitch 2 million lira (approximately $58,000) following a data breach. The fine comes after a 125 GB data leak was discovered, prompting an investigation by the KVKK.
The board found that Twitch had failed to take adequate measures to protect user data, leading to the breach. This is the latest in a series of data protection issues faced by global tech companies, as countries tighten regulations on how personal data is handled and secured.
Twitch has not yet commented on the fine or the findings of the investigation.
