Toxic Smog Covers New Delhi, Air Quality at Dangerous Levels
New Delhi, Nov 14 – New Delhi is experiencing thick smog again, with air quality reaching unsafe levels. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in some areas has hit 461, which is considered very dangerous.
For the second day in a row, the air is classified as “severe,” and many residents are staying indoors to avoid the harmful effects of pollution.
Local lawyer Sunieta Ojha said, “It’s been really bad. I’ve stopped going outside for exercise, and kids are getting sick.”
Activist Bhavreen Kandhari added, “It’s sad to see my children growing up in this pollution. I’ve had to stop them from playing sports.”
According to IQAir, New Delhi was the second most polluted city in the world on Thursday, after Lahore, Pakistan. The main cause of the pollution is PM 2.5 – tiny particles that can harm the lungs. Vehicle exhaust, construction dust, and burning crop waste are some of the major sources.
The lack of wind is trapping the pollution over the city, making the situation worse. Experts predict the air will remain bad until the weather changes.
The government is advising people to stay inside, and some schools have stopped outdoor activities. The pollution problem in Delhi is growing, and experts are calling for urgent action.
