Tim Southee to Retire from Test Cricket After England Series

New Zealand cricketer Tim Southee has announced that he will retire from Test cricket after the upcoming series against England. After playing two World Cups and helping New Zealand achieve a historic 3-0 win in India, the 35-year-old bowler feels it’s the “right time” to end his 17-year Test career.

Southee, who made his Test debut against England 17 years ago, has decided to retire after this series, which will be his final Test matches. He had considered retirement earlier during New Zealand’s recent tour of India, but after reflecting on his career and speaking with coach Gary Stead, he chose to bow out after the England series.

“It’s been a dream come true to play for New Zealand,” said Southee. “I never imagined I’d still be playing Test cricket 17 years later. It’s been an amazing journey.”

Southee’s final three Tests will take place in Christchurch, Wellington, and Hamilton— all locations that hold special meaning for him. He looks forward to playing his last matches in front of friends and family.

Southee also spoke about the future of New Zealand’s bowling attack, saying he’s excited to see young bowlers stepping up. “It’s their time now to take the team forward,” he added.

Tim Southee’s retirement will mark the end of an era in New Zealand cricket, and fans are hoping for a memorable farewell from one of the country’s greatest bowlers.
