Three Cops Arrested Over Dr. Shah Nawaz Kanbhar’s Killing

Three police officers, SI Hidayatullah Narejo and Constables Nader and Qadir, accused in the killing of Dr. Shah Nawaz Kanbhar, have been arrested by Punjab Police and are being brought to Mirpurkhas. The officers had gone into hiding following riots across Sindh over the police encounter that led to Dr. Kanbhar’s death.

Dr. Kanbhar was booked under Section 295C of the Pakistan Penal Code for allegedly posting blasphemous material on Facebook, sparking protests by religious parties. He was arrested in Karachi and transferred to Mirpurkhas, where he was killed in a police encounter .

The police team involved managed to track down the hiding officers using modern technology, as they had switched off their mobile phones to avoid detection. Meanwhile, Pir Agha Umar Jan Sirhandi, accused of burning Dr. Kanbhar’s body, has been granted 5-day interim bail by Mirpurkhas Anti-Terrorism Court.
