Textile Exports Show Significant Growth in Pakistan
Pakistan’s Textile Exports Rise by 10.2% in September 2024
According to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, the country’s textile exports witnessed a remarkable increase in September 2024. The exports surged to $1.47 billion, marking a 10.2% rise compared to $1.33 billion during the same month last year. This growth is indicative of the ongoing recovery and resilience of Pakistan’s textile sector, which has faced numerous challenges in recent years.
The month-on-month comparison also reflects positive trends, as textile exports experienced a 4.4% increase from the previous month. This upward trajectory is supported by the robust demand for Pakistani textile products in international markets, particularly in categories such as knitwear, ready-made garments, and bed linen, which continue to be key contributors to the sector’s success.
For the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025, Pakistan’s textile exports have reached a total of $4.25 billion, showing an overall increase of 4.5% compared to the same period last year. This accounts for a significant 55.6% of the country’s total exports, underscoring the textile industry’s crucial role in the national economy.
In contrast to the textile sector’s positive performance, the food group exports faced challenges, reporting a slight decline. Total food exports amounted to $488.4 million, highlighting the need for improvements and strategic initiatives to enhance competitiveness in this sector.
Overall, the significant growth in textile exports demonstrates the sector’s pivotal importance to Pakistan’s economy, contributing not only to foreign exchange earnings but also to job creation and livelihood for millions of workers in the country. The government and industry stakeholders are optimistic about continuing this upward trend, aiming for further expansion and diversification in international markets.
