Territorial Dispute Leads to Gunfire and Stone Pelting Among Transgender Community in Kanpur
Kanpur, December 7, 2024 – A violent dispute over territorial boundaries among transgender individuals in Kanpur, India, led to shots being fired and stone pelting in a public confrontation. Several transgender people were injured during the altercation, with one in critical condition. CCTV footage of the incident has emerged and is rapidly circulating on social media.
According to reports, Roli Gudiya, a transgender woman who has lived in the Chakri area for 25 years, became involved in the conflict when a new transgender group started begging in the area. She filed complaints with the police, but no action was taken. Later, while returning home from a function at around 1 AM, Roli was attacked with stones and sticks as she stepped out of her car. When her companions attempted to intervene, they were shot at.
The CCTV footage clearly shows one group of transgender individuals pelting stones at a car, while another group, armed with bricks, stones, and sticks, is seen preparing for the altercation. The footage also depicts one transgender person being dragged by the hair and brutally beaten with sticks. Upon receiving information about the incident, Ashok Kumar Dubey, the police in-charge of Chakri, confirmed that officers quickly arrived at the scene. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment, and a search for the perpetrators is underway.
Police are optimistic about making arrests soon. The incident highlights growing tensions within the transgender community in the area and raises concerns about the handling of such disputes by law enforcement. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
