Teen Arrested for Plotting Terror Attack on Christmas Market in Germany
BERLIN, Nov 12 — A 17-year-old German boy has been arrested for planning an Islamist terror attack. Prosecutors say he was preparing a violent attack and wanted to target a Christmas market with a truck, similar to the 2016 Berlin truck attack that killed 12 people.
The teen was arrested last Wednesday in Elmshorn, a town in northern Germany. Authorities say he held extreme Islamist views.
Germany has been on high alert for terrorist threats, especially after the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas. In recent months, several planned attacks have been stopped, but there have been other incidents, including a knife attack in Solingen in August that killed three people and another attack in June that killed a police officer in Mannheim.
The investigation is ongoing.
