SNGPL and SSGC Seek 54% Gas Price Hike to Meet FY2025 Revenue Goals
ui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) have requested a gas price hike of 54% to meet their revenue targets for the fiscal year 2025. Gas prices are typically reviewed twice a year by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), which sets consumer prices across different categories based on these assessments.
OGRA has scheduled hearings on SSGC’s request to raise prices by 669 PKR per unit (Metric Million British Thermal Units) or 53.5% on November 8, while SNGPL’s request for an increase of 3.66% or 64.16 PKR per MMBTU will be reviewed on November 5.
SNGPL initially submitted its request on October 15 and later filed an amended petition on October 18 to reflect revenue needs for fiscal year 2025, citing an estimated revenue shortfall of PKR 20.85 billion, which includes PKR 489 million allocated for the LPG Air Mix project. SNGPL seeks to increase the average fixed price by 64.16 PKR per MMBTU.
SSGC, headquartered in Karachi, has forecasted a revenue shortfall of PKR 140 billion for the fiscal year and is requesting an increase of 669.07 PKR per MMBTU, which would raise the current price from PKR 1,251 to PKR 1,920 per MMBTU.
The proposed hikes could place additional financial pressure on consumers, pending OGRA’s final decision.
