Sindh Grapples with Malaria Epidemic: 106,684 Cases Reported

Pakistan is facing a significant malaria outbreak, with Sindh reporting a staggering 106,684 cases in just the past week, according to NIH sources. Larkana tops the list with 11,588 cases, followed closely by Khairpur with 10,681 cases. Other districts in Sindh, such as Qamar, Mirpurkhas, and Dadu, have also reported thousands of cases.

Malaria Cases in Sindh:

  • Larkana: 11,588 cases
  • Khairpur: 10,681 cases
  • Qamar: 7,998 cases
  • Mirpurkhas: 7,230 cases
  • Dadu: 6,045 cases

In Karachi, 779 cases were reported, with the highest number coming from District West with 155 cases.

Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Chief Minister’s Health Adviser, Ehtesham Ali, has taken notice of the 54,000 malaria cases reported this year . The southern districts are reportedly under the grip of malaria, with district Khyber being the most affected, registering 10,000 cases from January to August.

  • District Khyber: 10,000 cases
  • Shangla: 6,000 cases
  • Battagram: 3,000 cases
  • DI Khan: 4,000 cases
  • Tank and Karak: 2,000 cases
  • Lakki Marwat: 3,000 cases

The Health Adviser has directed District Health Officers to take immediate measures for malaria control and submit a report to his office, citing climate change as a factor in the increasing number of vector-borne diseases .
