Officials said that less than 1 million cars are manufactured annually in Pakistan, 45 licenses were issued to manufacture motorcycles and rickshaws in electric vehicles, currently 13 brands of vehicles are operating in the country, 5 million cars are manufactured in the country. 300 billion rupees tax was collected from the sale of cars last financial year.
Senator Salim Mandviwala said that the export of Toyota vehicles in Sri Lanka was due to the government’s loan, the quality of vehicles made in Pakistan is not good and therefore cannot be exported. Officials said that tractors and rickshaws are being recovered.
Chairman Committee Senator Aoun Abbas Bipi asked whether there was under-invoicing in the import of MG vehicles? Salim Mandviwala said that this matter has been resolved by the court. Officials said that the export target of 4 percent of vehicles was not achieved this year, the companies did not get export orders and got a stay from the court. No concessions were given.
Talking to Express News, General Manager Utility Stores Inayatullah Dullah said that the government is considering the closure of utility stores, the government will close utility stores under right sizing and a regular plan will be prepared in this regard.
The general manager said that the decision regarding the utility stores employees will be made under the plan, the Right Sizing Committee will make recommendations to the government on the issue of utility stores.
