Saudi Village in Asir Region Named Among UN’s Best Tourism Villages for 2024

Abo Noghta and the historic Tabab, located in Saudi Arabia’s Asir region, have been named one of the best tourism villages for 2024 by UN Tourism. The village was recognized for its rich history, including ancient castles and forts, and its commitment to eco-friendly tourism.

The village was selected as part of a global list of 55 rural communities under the theme “Rural Communities Shaping the Future of Sustainable Travel”. Abo Noghta stood out for using recycled materials in restoring old buildings, setting an example for sustainable development.

Zurab Pololikashvili, UN Tourism’s Secretary-General, praised tourism’s role in helping rural areas preserve their culture and boost their economy.

Abo Noghta is known for its farming traditions, growing crops like wheat, corn, and vegetables, and raising cattle. The village also uses an ancient technique to store seeds in cool rock structures, ensuring they stay fresh for future planting.

This recognition highlights Abo Noghta as a model for combining cultural heritage with sustainable tourism, offering lessons for rural development worldwide.
