Russia to Halt Gas Supplies to Austria Starting Saturday, Marking End of Last Russian Gas Flow to Europe

Vienna, Nov 15, 2024 – Austria will no longer receive Russian gas starting from Saturday, as Gazprom, Russia’s state-owned energy giant, has announced it will suspend deliveries to the country. The news was confirmed by Austria’s OMV oil and gas company, which reported that Gazprom will cut natural gas supplies to zero from 0500 GMT on November 16.

This move by Gazprom could signal the end of the last remaining Russian gas flows to Europe, following a series of disruptions in energy supplies amid ongoing tensions between Russia and the West. Austria’s dependence on Russian gas has been a key point of concern as the country navigates energy security challenges.

The decision comes as European countries continue to seek alternatives to Russian energy sources, which have been heavily impacted by the geopolitical crisis following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
