Russia Launches Massive Missile and Drone Attack on Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure

KYIV, Ukraine — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched a major attack on Sunday, firing 120 missiles and 90 drones at Ukraine. The strikes targeted the country’s energy infrastructure, causing widespread damage.

Zelenskyy explained that the attack included different types of drones and missiles, such as Shaheds and cruise missiles. Ukrainian forces were able to shoot down 140 of the incoming threats, but many still hit their targets, including power facilities.

The attack, which is the largest in the past three months, caused explosions across Ukraine, including in Kyiv, Odesa, and other regions. In the city of Mykolaiv, two people were killed and six others, including two children, were injured in a drone strike.

Since Russia’s invasion in February 2022, Russian forces have frequently targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, causing blackouts and power shortages. Ukrainian officials have called for more air defense help from Western allies to protect vital infrastructure and speed up repairs after such attacks.
