Russia and the United States Urge Citizens to Leave Syria Immediately Amid Escalating Conflict
December 7, 2024 – Both the United States and Russia have issued urgent advisories for their citizens to leave Syria immediately, citing growing instability and escalating conflict within the country.
The U.S. State Department has instructed American nationals to depart Syria “as soon as possible, while commercial flight options remain available.” In a security alert posted on social media, the department warned that the security situation across Syria remains “unstable and unpredictable,” with ongoing clashes between armed groups. The U.S. has emphasized the importance of leaving the country while commercial flight services are still operational.
Meanwhile, Russia, a key ally of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad regime, has also called for its citizens to leave the country. The Russian embassy in Damascus issued a statement on Friday advising Russian nationals to use commercial flights to exit Syria, highlighting the increasingly difficult military and political situation in the country.
The joint advisories from both nations signal a concerning escalation in the ongoing conflict, with growing concerns over the safety of foreign nationals amid the deteriorating situation in Syria. These developments come at a time of heightened tensions in the region, as various factions continue to engage in violent confrontations, threatening the stability of the country.
