ROBBERY RESISTANCE TURNS DEADLY: 21 CIVILIANS KILLED IN FAISALABAD THIS YEAR
Faisalabad has witnessed yet another tragic incident of a citizen being killed while resisting robbery. The latest victim, Zohaib, was caught in the crossfire when robbers opened fire on civilians who were trying to apprehend them. This brings the total number of civilians killed in robbery resistance to 21 this year.
The incident occurred near the Dera Sain graveyard in the Ghulam Mohammadabad police station area, where robbers had stopped a motorcyclist, Bilal, and snatched Rs 10,000 from him. When Bilal raised an alarm, citizens rushed to catch the robbers, but they were met with gunfire, resulting in Zohaib’s fatal injury.In the last 24 hours alone, two citizens have lost their lives and two others have been injured while resisting robbery. The total number of civilians injured this year stands at 149.
The police have had 55 encounters with robbers in Faisalabad district this year, resulting in the deaths of 31 robbers and injuries to 34 others. However, the cost has been high, with one constable martyred and 11 employees injured.
The question remains: how can citizens feel safe when resisting robbery becomes a deadly gamble?”
