Roadside Bomb Kills Three Iraqi Soldiers in Northern Iraq
BAGHDAD — A roadside bomb targeting an Iraqi army vehicle killed three soldiers and critically wounded two others in northern Iraq on Sunday, according to police and hospital sources. The attack took place near the town of Tuz Khurmatu, about 175 kilometers (110 miles) north of Baghdad.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Iraqi security officials indicated that the area is known to have remnants of the Daesh (ISIS) group, which remains active despite being officially defeated in 2017. These militants continue to carry out hit-and-run attacks on government forces.
The attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in parts of northern Iraq, where insurgent groups like Daesh have been responsible for sporadic violence and destabilization.
