Punjab Teachers Boycott TNA Test Amid Controversy; Education Minister Dismisses Propaganda
The Punjab government’s claims regarding the Teachers’ Training Needs Assessment (TNA) test have fallen through as reports indicate a widespread boycott of the test by teachers across Punjab. Videos and images of the boycott have circulated on social media, while Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has stated that the claims against the TNA test are baseless and assured that no teacher will lose their job.
The TNA test, launched by the Punjab government, will span the next ten days. It includes an online test and a 10-minute interview for each teacher, aimed at assessing their mental aptitude and educational standards. The test comprises two parts: a 40-minute assessment worth 80 marks and a 20-mark interview.
Several teachers’ associations have voiced concerns about the test, with many teachers refusing to participate. Teachers in Faisalabad have protested, openly declaring their boycott.
Minister’s Response: Claims of Propaganda are Unfounded
Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has condemned the backlash against the TNA test, labeling it as baseless propaganda. He emphasized that the TNA test is crucial for building teachers’ capacity and assured that no teacher would face job termination.
The minister criticized certain individuals for misleading teachers and hindering their growth. He pointed out that a small minority of about 20% is misleading the majority of teachers, creating unwarranted concerns. He stated that these elements neither work themselves nor allow others to do so.
Rana Sikandar Hayat reiterated that his mission is to improve the quality of government schools, empower teachers, and create a more accountable education system.
