PTI Decides to Formally Join the Judicial Commission of Pakistan

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to formally join the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) by nominating members from both houses of Parliament. This decision was reached during a special meeting of the PTI’s political committee, which released a statement regarding its plan.

The briefing highlighted that the responsibilities of the 13-member Judicial Commission have been expanded. The JCP will now oversee the appointments of judges to the Supreme Court, High Courts, and the Federal Shariat Court. Additionally, the commission will monitor High Court judges’ performance and compile their annual reports.

The JCP is also authorized to propose suitable names for judicial appointments in High Courts and establish benches in both the High Court and Supreme Court. A one-third quorum of commission members can call a meeting, and decisions will be made by a simple majority. Under Clause D, the absence of any member will not affect the validity of the commission’s decisions.

The PTI political committee unanimously approved the proposal to become part of the JCP, which will now be presented to the core committee for endorsement and ultimately to PTI Chairman Imran Khan for final approval. It was also agreed that the proposed names for opposition representation on the commission would be announced following Imran Khan’s formal endorsement.

The meeting also reaffirmed PTI’s strong stance on the 26th Constitutional Amendment, emphasizing its commitment to principle-based decision-making.
