PIA’s Operational Crisis: 17 Aircraft Remain Grounded Due to Technical Issues”
Lack of spare parts and maintenance resources exacerbates the situation for national carrier.
Karachi, October 25, 2024 – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is struggling with a reduced fleet as only 16 out of 33 aircraft are currently operational due to technical issues. Only 5 of the 12 Boeing 777 planes are in service, affecting both domestic and international flights.
Seventeen planes are grounded because of a lack of spare parts and maintenance problems. Among the grounded aircraft, many are important long-haul Boeing 777s.
In addition, 10 out of 16 Airbus A320 planes are operational, and only one of the five ATR planes used for shorter routes is currently flying.
The airline’s management has reported that they lack the resources needed to repair inactive planes, making the situation worse for PIA.
