For the first time, Pakistan is hosting the 28th Annual Conference of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centres (IAPTC) at the Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS), NUST. The conference runs from November 4 to 8, 2024.

The event was officially inaugurated with the opening of the new CIPS building by General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS). He was joined by notable dignitaries, including Jean Pierre Lacroix, Under Secretary General for the Department of Peace Operations, the UN’s Police Advisor, the Acting Deputy Military Advisor, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, and the Rector of NUST during the inauguration and opening ceremony.

In his keynote address, COAS Munir highlighted the evolving threats to global peace, emphasizing that, despite ongoing peacekeeping efforts by the UN and other organizations, significant challenges remain. He pointed to the struggles of innocent Kashmiris and Palestinians as reminders of the work still needed in the realm of peacekeeping.

Mr. Lacroix, serving as the Guest of Honour, praised Pakistan’s long-standing contributions to UN Peacekeeping Operations and expressed gratitude for the country’s role in hosting the conference.

Upon his arrival, COAS Munir was welcomed by Lieutenant General Fayyaz Hussain Shah, Inspector General of Training and Evaluation (IGT&E). The conference promises to facilitate discussions on best practices and strategies for enhancing peacekeeping operations globally, reaffirming the commitment of member states to international peace and security.
