Catfish Killer Alexander McCartney Jailed for Minimum of 20 Years

Belfast, Northern Ireland – Alexander McCartney, a 29-year-old from County Armagh, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 20 years for online sexual abuse and the manslaughter of 12-year-old Cimarron Thomas.

McCartney pleaded guilty to 185 charges, including over 50 counts of blackmail. Between 2013 and 2019, he targeted around 3,500 victims aged 10 to 16 worldwide. His actions contributed to Thomas’s suicide.

During the sentencing, Justice O’Hara criticized McCartney for showing no remorse and stated he poses a significant risk to the public. McCartney will not be eligible for release before 2039.
