Newborn Baby Abandoned in Trash Bin in Turkey, Sparks Nationwide Outrage
Konya, Turkey, Nov 17 – A newborn baby girl was found in a trash bin in the Turkish city of Konya, causing widespread shock and anger across the country.
According to reports from Al Arabiya, residents in the Marmara district of Konya’s Kılolar area heard the sound of a baby crying from a trash bin. Concerned locals immediately called emergency services, and police arrived at the scene to rescue the infant. The baby was then taken to a hospital in Konya, where doctors confirmed that she was healthy.
Following the discovery, police began investigating the case. They collected information from local residents, which led them to a 28-year-old woman, a foreign national and mother of five, who was later identified as the child’s mother.
Authorities found out that the baby, only a few days old, had been born at her mother’s home. When the woman was arrested, she admitted to abandoning her newborn in the trash bin after giving birth. The woman’s confession shocked authorities as she explained that her husband had been working abroad for three years. During his absence, she had an affair with another man and became pregnant. Fearing the consequences, she decided to abandon the baby after giving birth.
The police are continuing their investigation and questioning the mother to take legal action against her and to locate the child’s father.
The discovery has sparked widespread outrage across Turkey, with citizens demanding stronger awareness campaigns and improved psychological and social support to prevent such incidents. There are growing calls for greater efforts to protect vulnerable individuals and ensure such tragedies do not happen again.
