Monsoon Havoc: 30 Dead, Thousands Affected in Balochistan Floods

A trail of destruction and chaos has been left in the wake of monsoon rains that have ravaged Balochistan, claiming the lives of 30 people, including 13 children, and affecting nearly 200,000 others.

The relentless downpour has brought the province to its knees, with 866 houses completely destroyed and over 14,000 partially damaged. The agricultural sector has also borne the brunt, with 58,799 acres of crops destroyed, leaving farmers reeling.

The flooding has also disrupted critical infrastructure, with 41 kilometers of roads damaged, and four healthcare units affected. The Karakoram highway remains closed due to heavy rockfall, severing Pakistan’s land link with China.

In a tragic incident, a person was swept away by floodwaters in Qila Saifullah’s Ali Zai area, with the body later recovered. However, there is some respite for the people of Quetta, as gas supply has been restored after an alternative pipeline was repaired.

The Balochistan government has declared several districts as calamity-hit, with relief efforts underway to mitigate the suffering of the affected population.
