Monal Restaurant, Others Given 3-Month Ultimatum to Vacate National Park
In a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court has upheld its decision to remove several restaurants, including the popular Monal Restaurant, La Montana, and Gloria Jay’s, from the National Park area.
The court dismissed revision petitions filed by the restaurants, stating that their voluntary assurance to close within three months was a binding commitment. Filing revisions despite this assurance was deemed contemptuous.
The judgment also directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to lease out these restaurants in other areas on a priority basis, ensuring their relocation.
In a significant reversal, the Supreme Court withdrew its earlier observations granting priority to these restaurants in lease proceedings, prioritizing conservation efforts in the National Park area.
This verdict marks a major victory for environmental advocates and a significant setback for the restaurants, which will now need to relocate within the stipulated timeframe.
