Meta to Show Less Personalized Ads in Europe
Meta Platforms (Facebook and Instagram) announced on Tuesday that it will give users in Europe the option to receive less personalized ads. This move is aimed at addressing growing concerns from European regulators.
In response to EU demands, Meta will allow users to choose ads based on “context”—meaning ads will be shown based on the content users engage with during a session, rather than using detailed personal data. This change will be rolled out over the coming weeks for users who access the platforms for free with ads.
This shift is Meta’s attempt to comply with increasing regulatory scrutiny over user privacy and data usage in Europe.
