Lawyers Announce Nationwide Movement Against 26th Constitutional Amendment
Islamabad: A coalition of senior lawyers has declared a nationwide movement to oppose the recently introduced 26th constitutional amendment, labeling it as an “extra-constitutional” act and an affront to the judiciary.
Senior lawyer Hamid Khan emphasized that there is widespread consensus among legal professionals that the amendment must be halted, asserting that only Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is deemed acceptable to lead the judiciary.
In a press conference, Khan announced the formation of National Action Committees, reminiscent of those established during the protests in 2002 and 2007. He urged lawyers across Pakistan to prepare for protests, emphasizing that the legal community will commemorate Liberation Day on October 25 with demonstrations against the amendment.
