Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Passes Historic Law Protecting Animal Rights

Peshawar Pakistan: In a historic move, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has passed its first-ever law aimed at protecting animal rights. Provincial Minister for Livestock, Fazal Hakim, presented the bill in the assembly, marking a significant step forward in animal welfare.

The new law proposes strict penalties for those who overburden or harm animals. Offenders could face up to three months in jail or a fine of 50,000 PKR for causing distress to animals. Repeated acts of violence towards animals could lead to six months of imprisonment or a fine of up to 100,000 PKR.

Judicial Magistrates of the first class will oversee cases related to violations under this law. The legislation also mandates that animals be slaughtered humanely in slaughterhouses and transported in comfortable and safe conditions.
