Kentucky to Become a Hub for Battery Manufacturing with $712 Million Investment

Frankfort, Ky. USA — A new $712 million battery manufacturing project is set to transform Kentucky into a key player in energy storage, with the aim of producing industrial-sized batteries for the U.S. electric grid. The Shelbyville Battery Manufacturing Plant will employ 1,572 workers once fully operational, strengthening Kentucky’s role in the growing battery technology sector.

Governor Andy Beshear announced the project on Friday, emphasizing its importance for the state’s economy and its commitment to emerging battery technologies. The new plant is part of a broader trend in Kentucky, where companies investing in electric vehicle batteries have announced nearly $12 billion in new projects, expected to create over 10,280 full-time jobs.

“With this investment, we’re putting our stamp on working to become just the battery capital of the United States,” Beshear said, highlighting the state’s increasing importance in the energy and automotive industries.
