Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon and Beirut Outskirts, Killing Five Medics

Israeli forces continued their aggressive military campaign against Hezbollah on Friday, launching heavy airstrikes on southern Lebanon and the outskirts of Beirut, resulting in the deaths of at least five medics. Ground troops also clashed with Hezbollah fighters in the southern region.

The violence comes amid ongoing efforts by U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein to secure a ceasefire. Despite Hochstein’s optimistic comments earlier this week in Beirut that a truce was “within our grasp,” the intense military activity on the ground has dampened hopes for an immediate resolution.

Hochstein, after meeting with Lebanese and Israeli officials, traveled back to Washington, as the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah continues to escalate.
