Israel Expects Trump to Take Hard Line on Iran, Minister Says
Israel’s Energy Minister, Eli Cohen, has expressed expectations that the incoming Trump administration will adopt a tough stance against Iran, particularly on its nuclear ambitions. In an interview with Reuters, Cohen highlighted that President-elect Donald Trump’s appointments to key positions signal strong support for decisive action against Iran.
Cohen noted that the final years of Trump’s first term saw growing regional stability, partly due to sanctions on Iran that were close to forcing the country to change its nuclear posture. He said Israel hopes the new administration will continue this policy, particularly focusing on “acting assertively” to address threats from Iran and other regional actors.
Cohen also believes that this approach will help foster new alliances in the region, potentially leading to more peace agreements with Arab countries.
