Iraq’s Population Hits 45.4 Million, First National Census in Over 30 Years
Baghdad, November 25, 2024 – Iraq’s population has reached 45.4 million, according to preliminary results from the country’s first nationwide census in over three decades, announced by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Monday.
The census, conducted on November 20, provides vital data for future planning and development in the country. Prior to the survey, the Iraqi Ministry of Planning had estimated the population at 43 million.
This historic census marks a significant milestone for Iraq, offering key demographic insights for policymakers and authorities to better address the nation’s needs in terms of infrastructure, social services, and economic development.
