Iran Builds ‘Defensive Tunnel’ in Tehran After Israeli Strikes
Nov 12 (Reuters) – Iran is constructing a new “defensive tunnel” in its capital, Tehran, in response to Israeli airstrikes on targets within the country. The tunnel, which is still under construction, will connect a station on Tehran’s metro to the Imam Khomeini hospital, offering direct underground access to the medical facility.
This marks the first time in Iran that a tunnel with “defensive applications” is being built, according to the head of transport for the Tehran City Council. The tunnel is part of Iran’s efforts to improve infrastructure protection in light of recent tensions with Israel.
The decision to build the tunnel follows Israel’s first officially-recognized strikes in Iran last month. The airstrikes targeted missile factories and other sites near Tehran and in western Iran, in retaliation for an Iranian attack on Israeli territory on October 1.
The new tunnel is expected to provide a safe and secure route for medical access in case of further escalations.
