India Beat South Africa 3-1 in T20I Series with Record-Breaking Win
India crushed South Africa by 135 runs in the final T20I in Johannesburg to win the series 3-1, securing their fifth bilateral T20I series win in 2024. Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma were the stars of the match, both scoring centuries and breaking multiple records.
India posted a massive 292/4, the highest-ever T20I total in South Africa and their second-highest ever in T20Is. They became the first Full Member team and third international side to have two players score centuries in the same innings. This also marked the first time a team had four centuries in a single T20I series.
Samson and Varma shared a 210-run partnership for the second wicket, the highest-ever partnership for India in men’s T20Is. Samson smashed 9 sixes, while Varma hit 10, with most of his shots coming on the leg side. The two batsmen took apart South Africa’s bowlers, with only Marco Jansen bowling economically at less than 11 runs per over.
In response, South Africa could only manage 148, collapsing to their biggest defeat by runs in T20I history. India’s bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya, took control early, and South Africa never recovered.
This win completes a dominant series for India, who have now won five T20I series in 2024. For South Africa, it’s another disappointing series loss, as they haven’t won a bilateral T20I series since August 2022.
