Hungarian PM Viktor Orban Urges EU to Rethink Support for Ukraine After Trump’s Election Win
BUDAPEST, Nov 8 – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called on the European Union to reassess its support for Ukraine following Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election. Orban stated that Europe cannot bear the financial burden of the ongoing war in Ukraine on its own.
Speaking ahead of a summit of EU leaders on Friday, Orban pointed to Trump’s criticism of the U.S.’s level of involvement in Ukraine’s conflict with Russia. Before the election, Trump had promised to end the war quickly if elected, though he did not provide specifics on how he would achieve this.
Orban’s remarks reflect growing concerns within the EU over the long-term financial and political costs of supporting Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia, and the shifting dynamics in international diplomacy with Trump’s return to power.
