French Farmers Protest EU-Mercosur Trade Deal Over Growing Competition
Farmers across France protested on Monday against the potential EU-Mercosur trade deal, which they fear will increase competition and harm the French agriculture sector. The protests, the largest since last winter’s demonstrations, included tractor blockades and manure dumps at government buildings.
Farmers voiced frustration over ongoing issues like low incomes, tough regulations, and the impact of cheaper imports. Despite promises of support, the sector is grappling with weather-damaged harvests and livestock diseases.
