Foxconn Tells India Recruiters to Remove Marital Status, Age, Gender from iPhone Job Ads
SRIPERUMBUDUR, India– Foxconn, a key supplier for Apple, has instructed recruitment agents in India to remove age, gender, and marital status criteria from job ads for iPhone assembly workers. The company also ordered that Apple’s name be omitted from the ads, according to sources familiar with the matter and a review of job postings by Reuters.
This change follows a June investigation by Reuters that revealed Foxconn’s practice of excluding married women from job opportunities at its main iPhone assembly plant in India, though the policy was relaxed during peak production periods.
