Faisalabad: Food Authority Cracks Down on Non-Compliant Food Manufacturers, Seizes 18,000 Kilos of Infested Corn
The Director General of the Punjab Food Authority, Asim Javed, along with food safety teams, conducted a raid on a starch production unit in the Iqbal Industrial City area of Jhang, seizing 18,000 kilos of infested corn and disposing of 1,640 liters of expired chemicals, imposing a fine of 1 million PKR.
According to details, the unit lacked a proper segregation system for expired and fresh goods, and there was dirty water on the broken floor with a significant presence of pests in the processing area. The same packing line was being used for packing both food-grade and industrial-grade starch, and there was a lack of essential labeling on chemicals and necessary records.
DG Food Authority Asim Javed stated that the infested corn was intended to be processed into food-grade starch for market supply. He emphasized that heavy fines would be imposed on those conducting business in violation of the regulations. He added that compliance with Punjab Food Authority laws is essential for food businesses, and inspections of all food establishments across the province are ongoing.
