Facebook and Instagram to Use Face Recognition for Quick Account Recovery

Meta Testing New Tools for Easier Account Recovery and Fraud Prevention
Meta is testing new tools designed to simplify the process of recovering locked Facebook and Instagram accounts, which has historically been complicated and time-consuming. The tools, including face recognition technology, aim to help users regain access to their accounts swiftly while also protecting them from fraud.

Monika Beckert, Meta’s VP of Content Policy, emphasized that the tools will provide a secure way for users to verify their identity and prevent impersonation-based fraud.

Early tests with celebrities have shown promising results, with users able to unlock accounts within minutes by submitting a video selfie that is matched with their profile photo. Meta assures that all data will be deleted after the process to maintain privacy and security.
