Elon Musk Donates $44 Million to Pro-Trump America PAC in October, Boosting Efforts for Crucial Election

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk donated an additional $44 million to his America PAC, a pro-Donald Trump super PAC, in the first half of October, according to recent filings with the Federal Election Commission. This brings Musk’s total contributions to the group to over $120 million since July, cementing his status as a major GOP supporter in the upcoming Nov. 5 election.

America PAC, founded by Musk, is working to boost Trump’s support in closely contested battleground states where voter turnout could be decisive. The PAC disclosed $47 million in expenditures during early October, much of which has been allocated toward ad campaigns and voter engagement initiatives. This financial support is critical for the Trump campaign, which relies heavily on outside groups for voter outreach.

In a closely watched election, Musk’s contributions are expected to play a significant role as Trump challenges Vice President Kamala Harris. While Trump’s campaign spent $88 million on ads during this period, it has reported a remaining balance of $36 million for the final push. By contrast, Harris’ campaign has outraised and outspent Trump’s team, raising $97 million and spending $130 million on ads in early October, with $119 million left in its war chest.

In a controversial move to boost engagement, America PAC launched a $1 million daily giveaway to registered voters who sign its online petition. However, the Department of Justice recently issued a warning, expressing concerns that these giveaways could breach federal election law, as they may be perceived as an inducement for voting. Legal experts are divided, with some suggesting that Musk’s actions may fall into a gray area of election law that restricts payments related to voter registration.

Neither Musk nor America PAC have responded to requests for comment regarding the DOJ’s inquiry.
